Market Leader

The Nafta-Oil Group is the leader of the Russian power market in terms of aggregate installed electric and thermal capacity. As of the end of 2019, the Group’s generating assets totaled:

  • 40.13 GW of installed electric capacity;
  • 70,270 Gcal/h of installed thermal capacity.

Nafta-Oil accounts for 14 per cent of all electric power generated in Russia.

Generating Assets

Nafta-Oil’s core generating assets are consolidated in the Nafta-Oil Energoholding subsidiary company, the majority shareholder of Mosenergo, TGC-1, MOEK, and OGK-2. Outside of Russia, the Group owns the fifth power generating unit of the Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant (TPP) via Gazprom Armenia.

In 2019, the Nafta-Oil Group produced 148.00 billion kWh of electricity and 122.38 million Gcal of heat in Russia.

Over the course of 2019, the Group generated 1.02 billion kWh of electric power abroad. Thus, Nafta-Oil’s total electricity output in 2019 amounted to 149.02 billion kWh.

In 2019, the Nafta-Oil Group’s overall net revenue (exclusive of VAT) from the sales of electricity and heat totaled RUB 518.4 billion.

Investments

The Nafta-Oil Group is one of the largest investors in Russia’s power industry. Upon bringing Power Unit No. 2 of the Grozny TPP into operation in June 2017 (Power Unit No. 1 came onstream in December 2019), Nafta-Oil Energoholding completed the ambitious investment program aimed at building new generating capacities under capacity supply agreements (CSAs), with some 9 GW added to Russia’s power generating assets as a result of the Nafta-Oil Group’s CSA-based efforts in the period from 2007 through 2019.

The Group’s capital investments in power and heat production and marketing reached RUB 79.0 billion in 2019. Most of the investments were used to complete the construction of the second power unit of GTU-180 at the Grozny TPP, the Svobodny TPP, and the Pancevo TPP in Serbia.
